Steps:

1.  Cut a long strip of white construction paper (about 2 inches wide) to fit around your child’s head.

2.  Cut two bunny ear shapes from white paper and smaller pink ovals for the inner ears.

3.  Let kids glue the pink ovals onto the white ears and decorate with crayons or markers.

4.  Staple or tape the ears to the headband strip. Add cotton balls for a fluffy tail if you want!

5.  Fit the headband on your child’s head and let them hop around!

Why It’s Great: Encourages creativity, role-playing, and motor skills. Kids love pretending to be bunnies!

Tip: Sing “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” while they hop for extra giggles

Here comes Peter Cottontail Lyrics

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Verse 1:

Here comes Peter Cottontail,

Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,

Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way!

Verse 2:

Bringin’ every girl and boy,

Baskets full of Easter joy,

Things to make your Easter bright and gay!

Bridge:

He’s got jelly beans for Tommy,

Colored eggs for sister Sue,

There’s an orchid for your mommy,

And an Easter bonnet too!

Chorus:

Oh! Here comes Peter Cottontail,

Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,

Hippity, hoppity, happy Easter day!

Verse 3:

Here comes Peter Cottontail,

Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,

Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way!

Verse 4:

Try to do the things you should,

Maybe if you’re extra good,

He’ll roll lots of Easter eggs your way!

Bridge:

You’ll wake up on Easter morning,

And you’ll know that he was there,

When you find those chocolate bunnies,

That he’s hiding everywhere!

Chorus:

Oh! Here comes Peter Cottontail,

Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,

Hippity, hoppity, happy Easter day!

Outro (optional, sometimes included):

Hippity, hoppity, happy Easter day!

Fun Notes for Preschoolers:

•  Sing and Move: Encourage kids to hop like bunnies while singing “hippity, hoppity” or pretend to carry a basket of eggs.

•  Simple Words: The lyrics are easy for young kids to learn, especially the catchy chorus. You can teach just the first verse and chorus for simplicity.

•  Easter Connection: The song mentions jelly beans, colored eggs, and Easter bonnets, tying perfectly to Easter crafts or egg hunts.

Additional Info:

•  The song has been covered by many artists, but Gene Autry’s version is the most famous. Some versions slightly vary the lyrics (e.g., “happy Easter day” vs. “Easter’s on its way”), but the above is the standard.

•  It’s often featured in Easter-themed preschool activities, TV specials, or events like egg hunts.
